Can you believe it? Another year has come and gone, and while it may have went as quick as the blink of an eye, we have another great year to look forward too. Whether its going to be filled with getting all those passport stamps you’ve always wanted, obtaining new heights in your career or as simple as being kinder, we wish you good luck. We all know the hardship of obtaining the dreaded ‘New Years Resolutions’; we have a few realistic goals that can be obtained while working the hard knock yacht life. Even better? They are all set to improve your life in one way or another.
Improving Your Yachtie Life
Cutting Back
Ah, yes. Here’s the big one, and it’s no shocker. Instead of going cold turkey, try cutting back on something you’ve noticed you’ve been ‘over-indulging’ in lately. Whether that’s drinking a little too much (tisk tisk!), eating to much of that delicious rich food that our dear chef serves up, or spending a little less downtime in front of the TV in the crew mess, there are always things we wish we did a little less of. However, instead of setting yourself up for failure by saying you’re going to cut it out all together, try replacing it with something you’d like to do a little more of, such as reading, exploring, walking, taking care of your nail beds (we know that last one is a stretch, but it may be important to some people). Start off slow, and eventually after doing it more and more you’ll develop a pattern and start doing it without any force or dread. By doing it slowly and making it more of a life change, as opposed to a fad, by this time next year you’ll be happy with the long-term outcome as opposed to a short-term failure.
Drinking Water
It sounds silly, but at times this work is strenuous, and we often get too carried away with other dramas that we forget to go back to the basics, like staying hydrated. If you make a conscience effort to drink more water, you’ll be surprised at just how energetic you’ll become. Fatigue, sleepiness, confusion, headaches or dizziness are all symptoms of dehydrations – and we’re sure you’ve experience a few of those at one time or another, dehydration inspired or not. Try drinking a glass of water before each meal, or just add a water bottle to your multiple things you move around from one spot of the boat to another. If you can stick to it, good for you – if you really can’t stand the thought of all that drinking, try flavoring your water; cucumber or strawberry and basil are quite refreshing additions!
Asking for that Raise
This one is kind of a no-brainer, but believe it or not, it could be the cause of a lot of unhappiness in your daily life. Make 2016 a year to ask for what you truly think you’re worth, and start that off by obtaining that in your salary and what you feel you hard work is worth. We dedicate a lot of time to our work life, and being truly satisfied with your efforts vs the dollar figure is substantial in our lives. So stop stalling and just do it, what’s the worst that can happen.
When you’ve obtained this, or even if you haven’t, the next big thing would be saving. But maybe we’ll save that one for 2017!
Happiness & Positivity
If you’ve been reading along, a lot of our resolutions all have an underlying meaning – we just want you to be happy this year, and every year for that matter. Take actions to brighten your day, or do things that inspire others to be happy as well. Nothing bad ever came from spreading some good karma, so do random acts of kindness or just do what makes you happy – life is too short not too!
