MCA Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS)
ECDIS is now a mandatory requirement for Officer of the Watch, Chief Mate and Master (Yachts) <500/3000gt.
The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System General Operator's certificate is a Certificate of Competence (CoC) which is required to obtain a MCA OOW. This course is required for anyone that will be required to have any radio communication duties on a vessel that is GMDSS compliant.
The Master’s MCA Seamanship and Meteorology Course is an Advanced Course Module in Seamanship. This course covers seamanship, watchkeeping procedures, International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 (COLREGS), passage planning, meteorology, MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) and the Code of Safe Working Practices.
This module covers the basic principles of ship stability with regard to loading and shifting of weights, dry docking, longitudinal stability and the related basic calculations.
